RINUS GERRITSEN AT PIER 32 JAMSESSION,
SCHEVENINGEN, AUGUST 05, 2004
On this page you can see some picture of Rinus Gerritsen when playing at the Pier 32 beachclub Scheveningen in a jamsession on August 5, 2004. It was great fun being there with my wife and I met Jan Sanders and his lovely wife at the venue as well. Jan gave me the final info about this small gig which was given no extra promotion due to the small club. Later on the four of us had a quit amusing talk of 15 minutes with Rinus as well in between the two played sets. We asked him a lot of questions. Later this week I will add a review about this gig to the photo's (info below now). Just wanted to share a unique moment with you....
August 6: Last night Rinus and some friends, including Jaap de Jonckheere (former Boom Boom Mancini) and the guitarist Ron Knoester from Billy the Kid played several hours in a beach club in The Hague near Kijkduin; rock and blues including Cross roads of the legendary Cream and an 80's song called Move on up.
Rinus told Jan Sander, our wives and me that he really enjoyed doing these small gigs. As we all know he sounds just as good at a 300.000 Scheveningen Beach concert as during these gigs attended by approximately 100 people. Rinus added that he builds up callus on his fingers tips during the summer break. Great to see Rinus walk up to the beach club with his bass and an amplifier. Back to the sixties!
In October 2004 the band intends to release Naked III so told Rinus Jan Sander. Rinus worked on the tape this week for three days with John Solleveld to repair minor 'errors'. Next week George will work on the tapes. The band decided to go for the recordings of the second concert. During the first show the band just made too many mistakes, according to Rinus. Besides that after three songs, the band and the audience looked like they just came out of the swimming pool. Twilight Zone and Johnny make believe were part of the setlist as 'teasers' and will not be a part of the cd, dvd. The band was concerned that the audience would be too surprised to only hear all this 'new' songs!
It's always great to listen to Rinus. He just knows so much about the band and he remains a great and friendly storyteller! We also heard the band is busy with the organisation of another beach concert at Scheveningen. This was cancelled for this year due to organising problems with permits and sponsors and the European soccer championship at the same time as the scheduled 3rd beach concert...
