17.40hr Pinkpop 2005 had a lower number of visitors than expected but the weather was better. About 20.000 people could see many bands today and amongst them was our "own" Golden Earring. The band was eager to give a fine performance at this classic rock festival where they attended for the third time. The band was introduced by Giel Beelen who doesn't like the band and he said so. He said them to play Rollator rock. He then gave the microphone to Mister Pinkpop Jan Smeets himself. He remeniscent about the start of Pinkpop 1970 and had the audience sing Happy birthday for the band which they surely didn't appreciate....The band opened with Candy's going bad and a great guitar solo. Barry's pronunciation was in a American way. I wouldn't be suprised if this would be a cd recording for future use or so. The whole band was dressed in black and as a contrast Barry's white shoes and Rinus white bass. Twilight zone was great and I even saw Mari van den Anker a few times with "Golden" glasses during the broadcast.

During Twilight zone which is Georges showcase, there was a larger than life sound and of course a wonderful solo by George who gave it all today. His in-ear monitors now proved to be worth the money as there was a really large stage of course. During this huge Golden Earring hit Twilight zone the crowd really went wild. Cesars drumkit was a little minimised without the wellknown cube rack but with the skeleton bassdrum (on which he later on started his drum solo).

Of course Barry wore sunglasses as could be expected from this rockstar. In the audience many Golden Earring related shirts could be seen and even the "Who the fuck is Barry Hay" shirt was shown. During When the lady smiles the crowd started to jump even more than they already did and even (hard)rockers seemed to enjoy Golden Earrings rock. There was no real light show due to the daytime playing time. Most band members had their pink(pop 2005) tags around their wrist, without George. After Going to the run all time classic Radar love with the best pop intro ever (according to Dutch votes on national radio) was played with a great solo by George followed by a drum solo from Cesar. The broadcast was changed to another band after 40 minutes.

Barry Hay met Beth Hart earlier on the day backstage, but didn't join her on stage during her performance.

14hr: Beth Hart wasn't joined by Barry on stage. Maybe she will join Golden Earring and sing her song. This might be another possibility.... I just heard on 3FM she spoke backstage to Barry and his wife Sandra, so the band is there now.

08 hr: Today Golden Earring will perform at the PinkPop 2005 festival. They will play an hour show starting 17hr, with all kinds of hits. Also performing there is Beth Hart. Maybe she will be joined by Barry Hay on stage to perform the duet "I don't wanna be" they recorded together. Who knows.... The whole day Nederland 3 broadcasts from PinkPop so check out if Golden Earring will be broadcasted as well.
